Deadlift

What is a Deadlift?

Deadlifts are an excellent strength exercise for your glutes and back muscles. When performed correctly, this fundamental strength training move can also improve posture. Proper form is critical for a deadlift, so taking the time to master the basics with small weights is key for maximizing the benefits of the exercise.

How do you do a Deadlift?

  • Étape 1

Hold a dumbbell in each hand and hold them in front of your thighs with relaxed arms. Stand with your feet hip-width apart.

  • Étape 2

Bend your knees and hinge forward from your hips, keeping your back long and straight. Find a focal point on the floor directly in front of your feet and keep your gaze on it. Avoid looking directly in front of you, as that position can compress your neck.

  • Étape 3

Drive back up to a standing position, squeezing your glutes at the top. Repeat the exercise.

Keep the quads engaged by pulling up the kneecaps.

Do not lock out your knees, especially if you are hypermobile. Keep the naval drawn in at all times. Only hinge as far down as you can keep your back straight, avoiding the forward curve in the spine.
